Along with our project Partners we have moved in to FAT testing phase bringing us one step closer to completing the project.
Instantly Networked Smart Triage (INST) is a novel service enabled by satellite communications that provides real-time data to the emergency services to help save lives and protect people.
INST is enabled by a low-cost lightweight digital device that can be fixed to a casualty in an emergency to indicate their location and how urgently they require follow up treatment.
This digital device will use ‘multi-bearer communications’ to relay relevant telemetry information to those managing the response to this emergency. ‘Multi-bearer communications’ includes conventional mobile phone networks, 5G (including NB IoT and LoraWan) GNSS, NFC and Wi-Fi. The system as a whole will involve a quickly-deployable, ad-hoc mesh network that will connect the device via one or more relays to a base station which then connects to a satellite uplink. Data communications will be cyber-secure.

The digital devices together with gateway and the software platform will deliver a resilient and real-time picture of position, count and type of casualties. The system has the potential to save lives by providing improved, accurate and reliable situational awareness across the Tri-services at the Forward Command Point (FCP) as well as Strategic, Tactical and Operational Command during any mass casualty incident.
